澳洲天然蛋白石

蛋白石(歐泊)是一種獨特的寶石，英文名稱 Opal ，源自印度梵語中的 Upala ，意思為「珍貴的寶石」，在傳至古羅馬後變成了拉丁文 Opalus ，即代表匯集各種寶石於一身的意思。蛋白石經光線所折射的七彩色斑，能呈現五彩繽紛各種顏色，如同集各種寶石的色彩於一身，更是世界上六種珍奇寶石之一。

蛋白石身為貴重的半寶石，呈透明至微透明，有着如玻璃的光澤，由於內含水份，故此光線照射進晶體內的水分後，而形成七彩斑斕的特殊現象，其現象被稱為「變彩效應」或「遊彩現象 Play of Color。

另外，注意蛋白石不可使用超聲波清洗，因有機會使蛋白石形成裂痕；至於較薄的蛋白石，可以隔約半年放在水中浸一段時間，作為保養方法，使其虹彩更艷麗。
